DISCOVER CAMP NAMANU

NEW TO NAMANU?

Namanu is a timeless place of exploration, growth, and endless discovery; of new friendships, caring adults, and a sense of community. At Camp Namanu, campers sing songs, sleep in cabins and treehouses, and play games, as they have for more than 90 years. The camp blends tradition and innovation with exciting developments in programming and infrastructure, like a ropes course and adjustable rock climbing wall that help kids build confidence and leadership.

Camp Namanu works to provide an inclusive and youth-led experience for all its campers. By living and working together in a community, campers gain skills to care for the world around them. All sessions offer age-appropriate activities that may include cookouts, hiking, swimming, boating, arts & crafts, exploring nature, and singing. As kids grow up at Namanu, new programs become available to them, such as archery, overnight hikes, and high ropes challenge courses.

Each grade level outlined below has its own geographically centered unit. From the modern, comfortable, and enclosed cabins of Blue Wing to the rustic and picturesque open-air tree houses of Balagan, each unit space offers an exceptional outdoor experience. At Namanu, campers live in cabins with youth of the same gender identity and age group. Counselors stay in the same cabins as our younger campers (6th grade and below) to provide supervision and safety. For older campers, a counselor sleeps near the cabin to encourage independence and responsibility.

During the summer most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in math skills and low-income students lose more than two months of reading achievement. Studies demonstrate that non-academic experiences during the summer—like summer camp—can support success during the school year, including higher grades and test scores. Camp Namanu’s progression of activities ensures summers of learning for your child.

Unit assignments are based on the camper’s grade for next school year, 2018-2019

RENTER TESTIMONIALS

We have rented a lodge and cabins at Camp Namanu for our Winter board retreat for the past two years. To say the camp is magical would be an understatement. The historic architecture, picturesque forest and river views and the comfortable and clean atmosphere of the cabins was a literal ‘retreat’ for our board members. Camp Namanu was the perfect landing pad for team building, personal growth, and the kind of happiness that could only come from a camp.
