Time spent at camp offers today’s youth the opportunity to unplug from screens while reconnecting with nature. A session at Camp Namanu or Camp Fire Day Camp provides a chance to learn about the world, and themselves, while getting time to just be kids. Youth in grades K-5 are our youngest Camp Fire campers, so we take special care in choosing just the right activities to get them playing and learning. Our trained, caring summer staff give your camper the attention they need to experience the magic of Namanu!
Camp Fire’s Day Camps offer programs starting with kids going into Kindergarten. Our Resident Camp welcomes campers as early as 1st grade, and Namanu Ranch offers half sessions for campers going into 5th grade.
Worry-Free Experiences for All
First times away from home can be difficult for some campers, as well some parents. Fortunately, our Camp Namanu staff have been highly trained to keep your camper safe, and having a great time! Each of our staff attends two weeks of training before Campers arrive. These youth development professionals learn and practice skills such as: making safety a priority, preventing homesickness, effectively managing groups, building connections between campers, facilitating fun and meaningful conversations, and helping youth find their spark, as well as important skills like arts & crafts, catching newts, and building fires. Many of our 2017 camp staff are returning from 2016. And we also have a great group of new staff that are former Namanu campers themselves.
“Last Summer, I was a first time Namanu parent of a 1st grader. I was extremely excited that my son was able to have the opportunity to attend a Half Session of Camp to see how he, and I, felt about him being at Camp. In fact, he enjoyed it so much he wanted to sign up for a whole week during the second half of the summer! He is already looking forward to seeing his new friends at Camp Namanu in 2017.” – Steven Joinson “Sound”, Resident Camp Director and Dad of a Namanu camper

Resident Camp: Younger Camper Options
A first time at camp can be as much as a whole week, or as little as an overnight. You and your young camper have choices!
Campers going into 1st -2nd grade can start their Namanu experience with an over night at camp in our Minis unit. Designed to give a first-time camper a short but exciting taste of camp, Minis stay in recently built Blue Wing cabins, which have electricity bathrooms and showers in the cabin.
Namanu’s Half sessions are often the best way to experience camp for the first time. Half sessions allow both campers (and families) try camp in a shorter time frame. These half weeks are a great way to introduce your young Camper to Namanu. During their 3 nights and 4 days at Camp Namanu, campers get to try out the activities in a shorter session. These short sessions are available for both Blue Wing (2nd and 3rd grades) and Sherwood (4th and 5th grades) units.
Blue Wing Campers get to spend time rowing boats in the Duck pond, swimming in the pool, creating great things at Arts and Crafts, playing in the meadow, making S’mores at the camp fire, carving soap with our Camp Craft specialist, and of course singing around a camp fire. Also, there’s the opportunity to write a letter to Mr Skriggleboggle, our resident elf, who just loves letters from Campers!
For those Campers going into 4th and 5th grades, they will live in Sherwood Unit with their counselors. The Sherwood Campers get to add Archery, building forts and the Climbing Tower to their activity list, They also are able to do some cooking over a Camp Fire during one of their meal times at Camp. All of our Campers have the opportunity to make new, long lasting friends at Camp Namanu.
Campers going into 5th grade can also take part in a half session at Namanu Ranch! This session is designed to give beginning riders a taste of the Namanu Ranch lifestyle.
